Year Round Reading Programs for Children
The library offers two ongoing reading programs for pre-kindergarten children: Baby Bugs and 1,000Books Before Kindergarten.
Baby Bugs is a head start towards 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, and is designed for children who are under two years old at the time of enrollment. Baby Bugs participants commit to reading 100 books with their babies by the time they turn two. There will be rewards along the way, as well as giving your child a head start for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. Upon completing Baby Bugs, children can be enrolled in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten with a 100 book head start.
Sign-ups can be done at any time. You may also register and log your child's reading online by clicking the blue Beanstack button below. Or, you may email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. To help you track your child's reading, a printable reading log for the Baby Bugs program is available for download.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten asks parents and caregivers to commit to reading 1,000 books with their children before entering kindergarten. You will receive rewards along the way. Once you have finished the program, your child is featured on our reading wall of fame and will be part of a reading celebration!
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Gold is open to children under the age of 4 that have completed the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program and are ready for another challenge. To reach a Gold Reader status, each child must
- Read 2,000 books to receive the Bronze Medal
- Read 3,000 books to receive the Silver Medal
- Read 4,000 books to receive the Gold Medal
A printable reading log for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available for download.
Children will receive rewards and incentives for each reading level. There is no end date to the program. Once a child is registered, the goal is to finish before he or she enters Kindergarten.
